How To's

Glassblowing takes practice. Lots and lots and lots.... and lots of practice.

Factors that effect the glass - time, heat, thickness, color, lines, movement, pressure, surface, touch, angles...

Gathering - How much glass on a gather. Getting the same amount everytime. Same depth everytime. What is needed for that particular application. Moving the glass where it is needed.

Heating - Stay in for five more seconds. Out of control, five more seconds. Hot good, cold bad. Three turns anywhere and more heat is needed.

Blocking - Adds shape,  move glass, controls thickness.

Marvering - Moves glass, cools quickly, shapes quickly.

Blowing - Volume, pressure. Bubble size and shape. Desired outcome changes everything.

Where to start:

Magnets/Wine Toppers: Very basic shape. How much glass is needed? Get the same amount every time. Smooth clean gather line. Even coverage. Fits the block. Color application and movement. Surface change and effect.

Process for the wine topper: Gather, marver. slight cone shape. Force moile end of the glass to be as close to the pipe as possible.
Gather. Color. Heat. Marver to a cone shape. Heat. Block round with two inch graphite block. Heat.
Jack. Knock off.
The magnet is similar with a much smaller gather. Often use the same punty for creating multiple magnets. Use a smaller round block or egg block to shape

Bud Vase: there are about 30 steps to creating the bud vase. Gathering is once again key. Bubble shape is very important. Getting the right size bubble and keeping it.
